The invention relates to the field of solid materials for absorbing lithium. In particular, the present invention relates to a novel process for the preparation of solid crystalline materials of the formula LiX x .2Al(OH) 3 .nH 2 O, preferably in extrudate form, wherein n is between 0.01 and 10, when X is x is equal to 1 when an anion selected from chloride, hydroxide and nitrate anions, and x is equal to 0.5 when x is an anion selected from sulfate anions and carbonate anions; the method comprises: at a specific temperature and pH conditions, a step a) of precipitating boehmite; at least one shaping step, preferably by extrusion; the method also includes a final hydrothermal treatment step. When used to extract lithium from saline solutions, the method overall enables the resulting materials to have an increased adsorption capacity for lithium and adsorption kinetics compared to materials obtained from the prior art. |
