The present invention relates to a method for phosphating a metal surface substantially free of nickel, wherein the metal surface is first treated with an acidic aqueous phosphating composition comprising zinc ions, manganese ions and phosphate ions, optionally after cleaning and/or activation, and optionally rinsed and/or dried, followed by treatment with metal ions comprising at least one ion selected from molybdenum, copper, silver, gold, palladium, tin, antimony, titanium, zirconium and hafnium and/or at least one selected from polymeric Aqueous post-rinse composition treatment of polymers of the polymer class of amines, polyvinylamines, polyanilines, polyimines, polyethylenimines, polythiophenes and polypyrroles, and mixtures and copolymers thereof. The present invention also relates to the phosphating compositions and post-rinse compositions which are substantially free of nickel. |
