titleOfInvention | Support materials for 3D printing |
abstract | A three-dimensional printed article consists of hydroxyethylmethylcellulose (HEMC) having a DS of 1.7 to 2.5 and an MS of at least 0.5, where DS is the degree of substitution of methoxy groups and MS is the degree of molar substitution of hydroxyethoxy groups. HEMC can be advantageously used as a support material when making three-dimensional printed articles using build materials such as different thermoplastic polymers such as poly(acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene), polylactic acid, polyethylene and polypropylene. When HEMC is the support material, it can be easily removed from the build material by contacting the three-dimensional printed article with water at ambient temperature and neutral or near-neutral pH. |
