The present invention provides compositions and methods for in situ formation of pores within a hydrogel following injection of the hydrogel. The self-sacrificial pore formers in the surrounding hydrogel degrade in situ to form small pores, thereby accelerating the recruitment or release of cells. Disclosed herein are materials that initially do not contain small pores, but become porous after a period of time. |
