titleOfInvention | Differentiating mass transfer in a wet oxidation system |
abstract | A process for treating a carbonaceous feedstock such as coal or biomass. The process comprises adsorbing an oxidant selected from the group consisting of an oxygen-containing gas, hydrogen peroxide, ozone and an oxidizing acid onto the carbonaceous feedstock from a liquid phase comprising an aqueous mixture of water and the carbonaceous feedstock to produce an aqueous mixture having a liquid phase with a reduced oxidant content and having adsorbed on its surface the carbonaceous feedstock with the oxidant, heating the aqueous mixture to a temperature and for a time sufficient to partially oxidize and dissolve at least a portion of the carbonaceous feedstock. The reaction products may be chemically or physically separated, recycled to the heating step and/or subjected to microbial digestion to produce one or more desired products from the carbonaceous feedstock. The solid portion of the reaction product can be further processed for use in the paper industry. |
