The invention relates to a translucent pearlescent pigment, a process for the production thereof and the use thereof, the pearlescent pigment comprising a substrate sheet of monolithic construction, the substrate sheet being composed of a metal oxide having an average thickness of 1 to 40nm and a shape factor of at least 80, the shape factor being expressed by the ratio of the average size to the average thickness, the substrate sheet being surrounded by at least one substantially transparent coating A, the coating A being composed of at least one low-index metal oxide and/or metal oxide hydrate and having a refractive index of less than 1.8, and comprising at least one interference layer in the form of a coating B, the coating B being composed of at least one high-index metal oxide and having a refractive index of at least 1.8. |
