abstract A therapy system delivers breathing gas and frozen ice or other particles (FSP) to the pulmonary bronchi of a patient in order to induce hypothermia. The breathing gas and FSP are typically delivered through separate lumens. Occlusion of the FSP lumen may be inhibited by heating and/or cooling of the lumen. The temperature of the exhaled gas or the body temperature may be measured, and the controller may adjust the duration or rate of delivering the ice particles based on the measured temperature in order to control the core temperature of the patient.
