The present application relates to increasing crop yield by applying sugars (eg, mono- and/or di- and/or polysaccharides) to soil. Regardless of solid or liquid application, sugar is applied at a rate of at least 25 pounds per acre, more preferably at a rate of at least 50 pounds per acre, and more preferably at a rate of 100-250 pounds per acre or more. The present application relates to at least one application of sugar in time before, during or after planting. Depending on the form and/or type of sugar applied, application can be effected by broadcasting for solids or by spraying for liquids. The sugar may be sucrose, which is provided as granulated sucrose and spread before planting. Sugar can be applied in-furrow alone or in combination with conventional fertilizers. |
