The present invention relates to catalysts comprising a calcined oxide matrix, mainly alumina, and a nickel-containing active phase at least partially blended within said calcined oxide matrix, the nickel content being relative to the total mass of the catalyst 5% to 65% by weight of said element, the active phase does not contain any metal from group VIB, the nickel particles have a diameter of less than 15 nm, the catalyst has a median mesopore of 12 nm to 25 nm diameter, median macropore diameter of 50 to 300 nm, mesopore volume by mercury porosimetry of 0.40 ml/g or greater and total pore volume. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of said catalyst and its use in a hydrogenation process. |
