abstract Compositions using alkaline earth metal phosphate bone cements, methods of making and methods of use are disclosed. A bone cement composition comprising a powder and a setting solution comprising a powder of an alkali source of calcium, magnesium or strontium and a biocompatible polymer incorporated in the setting solution ; the setting solution comprising H3PO4 and buffered coagulation solution. The powder is mixed with a setting solution to form a bone cement paste, which is either (a) solidified into a hardened mass, or (b) irradiated with electromagnetic radiation to form a dry powder, which is subsequently mixed with a second setting solution to form a hardened mass of radiation-assisted bone cement paste.
