abstract |
A system and method for combined and split engine starting in a hybrid vehicle is disclosed. A system and method for controlling engine starting in a hybrid vehicle having a first electric machine and a second electric machine includes: starting the engine with the first electric machine in response to an engine start request and releasing reserved engine start torque of a second electric machine for propelling the vehicle. In response to a first engine start after the ignition switch is turned on, the first electric machine may be controlled to start the engine when a vehicle speed is below a corresponding threshold, and the second electric machine may be controlled to start the engine when the vehicle speed is above the corresponding threshold. The first electric machine may be a starter-generator all-in-one machine. |
