Novel carbocyclic and heterocyclic spiro compounds as donor materials for organic photovoltaic devices and their preparation |
abstract |
The present invention provides compositions and methods for using carbocyclic and heterocyclic spiro compounds as donor materials for organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices. In a preferred embodiment, the triarylamine-containing spiro compounds and their derivatives exhibit efficient hole transport properties in OPV devices, achieving power conversion efficiencies as high as 5.46%. Advantageously, the preferred compounds provided herein are thermally stable and volatile enough to form thin films by vacuum deposition or by spin coating for photoactive layers of OPV devices. |
