Anti-abuse drug composition |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a composition comprising a pharmaceutically active ingredient that is prone to abuse or has the potential to be abused. The present invention provides an oral pharmaceutical composition comprising a first population of beads and a second population of beads. The first population of beads contains a pharmaceutically active ingredient that is prone to abuse or has the potential to be abused. The second population of beads comprises a gelling agent and a coating substantially surrounding the gelling agent, but does not contain a pharmaceutically active ingredient. The first population of beads and the second population of beads are physically separable, but visually indistinguishable to the naked eye. When water enters the second population of beads, the gelling agent is caused to swell, forming a viscous mass that prevents or prevents extraction of the active ingredient. |
