An energy storage device comprising: a first porous semiconductor structure (510) comprising a first plurality of channels (511) comprising a first electrolyte (514); and a second porous semiconductor structure (520) comprising a second plurality of channels (521) containing a second electrolyte (524). In one embodiment, the energy storage device further includes a film (535) on at least one of the first porous semiconductor structure and the second porous semiconductor structure, the film comprising a material capable of exhibiting a reversible electron transfer reaction. In another embodiment, at least one of the first electrolyte and the second electrolyte comprises a plurality of metal ions. In another embodiment, the first electrolyte and the second electrolyte together comprise a redox system. |
