abstract The PET/MR images are compensated using a simplified adaptive algorithm for truncated parts of the body. The compensation is adapted to the specific location of the truncation of the body or organ in the MR image, and to the properties of the truncation in the truncated body part. MT images with smaller fields of view are used to mask anatomical structures in PET images that do not require any compensation. The uncovered organs are then classified into the type of anatomy, the orientation of the anatomy, and the type of truncation. Structure-specific algorithms are used to compensate for truncated anatomy. The compensation is verified for correctness and the ROI is filled at the missing voxel data. An attenuation map is generated from the compensated ROI.
