abstract | The present invention relates to a method for identifying follicular helper T cells, especially an in vitro method for identifying follicular helper T cells, comprising analyzing at least one CpG position in the leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) gene region in mammals Methylation status of the point where demethylation of this gene region is indicative of follicular helper T cells when compared to non-follicular helper T cells. Analysis according to the present invention can identify follicular helper T cells at the epigenetic level and differentiate them from all other cells in a complex sample, such as other blood cells. The present invention also provides an improved method for quantifying follicular helper T cells in complex samples. The method can be performed without steps of purification and/or enrichment of cells, preferably in whole blood and/or non-trypsinized tissue. |
