titleOfInvention | Driving Thin-Film Switchable Optical Devices |
abstract | The present application relates to driving thin film switchable optical devices. A controller and control method applies a drive voltage to bus bars of a thin film optically switchable device. The applied drive voltage is provided at a level that drives transitions across the surface of the optically switchable device without damaging or degrading the device. This applied voltage produces an effective voltage at all locations on the face of the device within the boxed range. The upper end of this range is associated with a voltage that is safely below a level at which the device can undergo damage or degradation affecting its performance in the short or long term. At the lower end of this range is the effective voltage at which transitions between optical states of the device occur relatively rapidly. The level of the voltage applied between the bus bars is significantly greater than the maximum value of the effective voltage within the framed range. |
