Skin-mounted or epidermal devices and methods for monitoring biological fluids are disclosed. The device includes a functional substrate that is mechanically and/or thermally matched to the skin to provide durable adhesion for long-term wear. The functional substrate allows microfluidic transport of biological fluids from the skin to one or more sensors that measure and/or detect biological parameters, such as biological fluid production rate, biological fluid volume, and biomarker concentration. The sensors within the device may be mechanical, electronic, or chemical, with the colorimetric indicators being observable by the naked eye or with portable electronic devices (e.g., smartphones). By monitoring changes in the health status of an individual over time, the disclosed devices can provide an early indication of an abnormal condition. |
