abstract | The present invention relates to compositions for surface sizing of paper, board or the like and their use for increasing the strength properties of paper, board or the like. The composition has a solids content of 3-30%, and it comprises degraded non-ionic starch and at least 0.5% by weight of an anionic polyacrylamide having a molecular weight MW of >500,000 g/mol and <2,500,000 g/mol and 4-35 mol% anionic. The present invention also relates to a method for producing paper, board or the like, the method comprising adding a first strength composition comprising a cationic agent to a fibrous stock, forming a fibrous web from the fibrous stock, and drying the fibrous web to a dryness of at least 60%, and a second strength composition comprising an anionic hydrophilic polymer and a starch component is applied on the surface of the fibrous web. |
