abstract The present disclosure provides compositions comprising subsets of exosomes and methods of their use in subjects suffering from certain disorders, including pulmonary disease, cardiovascular disease, renal disease, and ischemic neuropathy. The present disclosure provides compositions comprising exosomes and methods of their use in the treatment and/or prevention of various diseases or disorders. Accordingly, one aspect of the present disclosure provides isolated efflux bodies. In some embodiments, the isolated efflux comprises one or more markers selected from the group consisting of ALIX, TSG101, TGFBR2, SMAD1, SMAD2, SMAD3, SMAD5, and CD105, and/or the isolated efflux The body does not contain one or more markers selected from the group consisting of FLOT1, CD9, CD81, CAV1, EGFR, AKT1 and AKT2. In some embodiments, the isolated exosome comprises 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 markers selected from the group consisting of ALIX, TSG101, TGFBR2, SMAD1, SMAD2, SMAD3, SMAD5, and CD105.
