titleOfInvention Nonionic amphiphiles and methods of making the same
abstract Sugar-derived tetraol nonionic amphiphilic amine-esters are facilely and efficiently prepared in several steps. The process is initiated by esterification of sugar-derived tetrols with fatty acid chlorides, followed by triflate esterification followed by nucleophilic substitution of the aforementioned hydrophilic amines. Each synthetic route is efficient and gives moderate to high yields of target amphiphiles valued as viable surfactant alternatives to petroleum incumbents.
