The present invention relates to a catalyst comprising a calcined oxide matrix of predominantly alumina and an active phase comprising nickel, the active phase being at least partially blended within the calcined oxide matrix of predominantly alumina, the nickel content being from 5 to 65 wt% of the element relative to the total mass of the catalyst, the active phase being free of metals from group VIB, the nickel particles having a diameter of less than 15 nm, the catalyst having a median mesopore diameter of from 8 to 25 nm, a median macropore diameter of greater than 300 nm, a mesopore volume as measured by mercury porosimetry of 0.30 ml/g or more and a total pore volume as measured by mercury porosimetry of 0.34 ml/g or more. The invention also relates to a method for producing said catalyst and to the use thereof in hydrogenation processes. |
