abstract | The present invention includes neutralized amino acid ester emulsifiers, emulsions and compositions containing the emulsifiers, and related methods. The emulsifier is a neutralized amino acid ester, which is a reaction product of a neutral amino acid and a fatty alcohol and is represented by formula (I), wherein R 1 Is an alkyl group having 6 to 24 carbon atoms; r 2 Is an alkyl group having 6 to 36 carbon atoms; and neutralizing the amine groups of the amino acids with an acid. The emulsifier is cationic. Also included are stable emulsions and compositions, preferably personal care compositions, which include an emulsifier and which may have a pH level of 5.5 or higher. Included within the scope of the invention are methods of using the emulsifiers to enhance the affinity of a composition for negatively charged substrates, methods of emulsifying using the emulsifiers, and methods of making personal care compositions. |
