A positive electrode includes a lithium-based active material, a binder, a conductive filler, and discrete alumina nanomaterials. Throughout the positive electrode, alumina nanomaterials are mixed with lithium-based active materials, binders, and conductive fillers as additives. Positive electrodes with discrete alumina nanomaterials can be incorporated into lithium-ion batteries. Alumina nanomaterials can be formed by the following methods. A solution is formed by mixing an alumina precursor and an acid. The carbon material is added to the solution, thereby forming an aqueous mixture having the carbon material therein. The aqueous mixture is used for hydrothermal synthesis to generate precursor nanostructures on carbon materials. The precursor nanostructures on the carbon material are annealed to remove the carbon material and form alumina nanomaterials. |
