In a remote control system and method for intraluminal or intravascular positioning procedures, an invasive element to which a remote control unit (RCU) is connected can be introduced into the lumen. An elongated tube, with the activation device secured near its distal end, can be inserted into the lumen through the invasive element. The RCU is positioned within the transmission range of the actuator for activating the device. The operator manipulating the tube with one hand for tactile sensation and engaging the RCU with the other hand while viewing the distal end of the tube on the monitor, and after determining that the body part requires corrective action, presses the RCU button to activate the activation device. In one embodiment, the RCU includes a housing for securing the intrusive element, facilitating application of counterforce to the housing by a finger during operation. |
