titleOfInvention | Method for controlling sex of oviparous embryos using light source |
abstract | The sex of an embryo in an egg is influenced or controlled by applying light having a selected wavelength so as to promote the development of an embryo having the selected sex. An incubation device is provided having an internal cavity that can be sealed from the outside and having a plurality of lighting elements within the internal cavity. Eggs are disposed in the internal cavity, and predetermined environmental conditions are applied to the internal cavity to promote hatching of the eggs. The eggs are illuminated according to predetermined lighting conditions concurrently with the application of the environmental conditions. These lighting conditions include applying light having wavelengths substantially concentrated within a selected range, such as light wavelengths within 440-460nm or other narrow ranges. |
