abstract The present invention relates to a kit and a method for determining total cholesterol. The kit comprises a reagent group 1 and a reagent group 2, wherein the reagent group 1 comprises a chromogen and cholesterol esterase, and the reagent group 2 comprises 4-aminoantipyrine, peroxidase and cholesterol oxidase, wherein the chromogen is or comprises N-ethyl-N- (2-hydroxy-3-sulfopropyl) -3, 5-dimethoxyaniline. The kits and methods of the invention can reduce interference in total cholesterol detection caused by the presence of calcium dobesilate and/or etamsylate in the sample.
