A method of making a plurality of resin beads, comprising (a) providing a reaction mixture comprising a monovinyl aromatic monomer, a polyvinyl aromatic monomer, and a porogen, (b) treating the reaction mixture Performing aqueous suspension polymerization to form resin beads, and (c) sulfonating the resin beads. Also provided are a plurality of resin beads, wherein the resin beads comprise polymerized units of monovinyl aromatic monomers and polymerized units of polyvinyl aromatic monomers, wherein the resin beads have 15 to 38 m 2 /g BET surface area and volume capacity of 0.7 or higher. Also provided is a method of making a product of a chemical reaction of one or more reactants, the method comprising reacting the one or more reactants with each other in the presence of the plurality of such resin beads. |
