The present invention relates to activated carbon and its preparation method. Disclosed is activated carbon having a content of about 70 vol% to about 90 vol% based on the total volume of all pores, comprising micropores having a diameter of about 0.5 nm to about 0.8 nm, and having nitrogen-containing functional groups introduced on the surface thereof. Furthermore, a method for preparing activated carbon is disclosed. The method may include the steps of: forming a reaction mixture comprising a carbon precursor, an alkali salt, and an organic compound containing nitrogen-containing functional groups; and heating the reaction mixture to a temperature of about 800°C to about 1000°C in the presence of nitrogen. |
