abstract | The invention provides artificial turf and a production method. The present invention provides a method of manufacturing artificial turf (1400). The method includes the step (100) of generating a polymer mixture (400, 500, 600), wherein the polymer mixture includes a stabilizing polymer (402), a host polymer (404), a flame retardant polymer composition, and a compatibilizer ( 406). The stabilizing polymer and the host polymer are immiscible. Stabilizing polymers include fibers surrounded by compatibilizers within a host polymer. The stabilizing polymer is an aramid. The flame retardant polymer composition is a mixture of triazine and melamine. The method also includes the step (102) of extruding the polymer mixture into filaments (706). The method also includes the step (104) of quenching the monofilament. The method also includes the step (106) of reheating the monofilament. The method also includes the step (108) of drawing the reheated monofilaments (706') to align the fibers relative to each other and form the monofilaments into artificial turf fibers. The method also includes the step (110) of introducing artificial turf fibers to the artificial turf backing (1406). |
