Process for producing polymers consisting of a linear backbone of β-D-(1-3)-glucopyranosyl units having (1-6) chains attached to the linear backbone A single β-D-glucopyranosyl unit of β-D-glucopyranosyl units with an average degree of branching of about 0.3, the method comprising the steps of: (i) under conditions that allow the genetically modified microorganism to produce the polymer , culturing in a medium the microorganism capable of producing the polymer consisting of a linear backbone of β-D-(1-3)-glucopyranosyl units having (1-6 ) a single β-D-glucopyranosyl unit connected to a β-D-glucopyranosyl unit of a linear backbone with an average branching degree of about 0.3, wherein the The modification confers increased activity of at least two gene products selected from: (a) hexokinase; (b) phosphoglucomutase; (c) UTP-glucose-1-phosphate uridylyltransferase; (d) 1,3-β-glucan synthase; (e) branching enzyme; (ii) optionally recovering the polymer from the culture medium. |
