The object of the present invention is to ensure high sheet thickness accuracy even with an ultra-thin stainless steel foil with a thickness of 60 μm or less, while ensuring plastic deformation ability and elongation at break, that is, ensuring good press workability (deep drawing workability). The present invention solves the problems by making the following ultra-thin stainless steel foil. The ultra-thin stainless steel foil has three or more crystal grains in the thickness direction, a recrystallization rate of 90% to 100%, and a nitrogen concentration of the surface layer of 1.0% by mass or less. For this reason, the following production method can be used to produce ultra-thin stainless steel foil. The production method is a method of rolling a stainless steel plate and then performing final annealing to produce an ultra-thin stainless steel foil with a plate thickness of 5 to 60 μm. The rolling reduction before final annealing is 30% or more, and the final annealing temperature after rolling is 950°C to 1050°C in the case of austenitic stainless steel, and 850°C in the case of ferritic stainless steel ~950°C, the nitrogen content in the atmosphere gas for final annealing is 0.1% by volume or less. |
