The present invention relates to novel fullerene derivatives of structural formulas 1a-d, 2 and 3: Methods of synthesizing said derivatives, and their use in organic photovoltaics (eg, organic solar cells). Specifically, the fullerene derivatives of the present invention are soluble in non-halogenated solvents, thereby providing an environmentally friendly and low-cost industrial manufacturing method for solar cells. Also provided is an ink formulation for forming a thin film on an organic photovoltaic substrate, comprising at least one fullerene derivative of the present invention. In the present invention, an organic solar cell (area = 0.16 cm 2 ) based on the fullerene derivative of the present invention can be realized with an energy conversion efficiency greater than 3%, with less pollution and lower manufacturing cost. |
