titleOfInvention Downhole cooling system with electrothermal effect
abstract Methods, systems, devices and products for making downhole measurements are presented. The method may include cooling a sensor in a borehole traversing the formation using an electrocaloric material associated with the sensor, wherein the sensor is responsive to a downhole parameter. The method may further include applying an electric field to the electrocaloric material to generate a large electrocaloric effect. The method may include selecting the size, composition and Curie temperature of the electrocaloric material and characteristics of the electric field sufficient to lower the sensor nominal temperature by at least 20 degrees Celsius, which may result in the sensor approaching a target temperature within the sensor's nominal operating temperature range.
