abstract |
A handheld medical imaging device having a rigid imaging tip optically associated with a photosensitive detector and the end of the rigid imaging tip is placed in contact with tissue. Rigid imaging tips are used to identify abnormal tissue during surgical procedures. The device can illuminate the imaging agent sufficiently to generate a fluorescent signal. The device reliably detects millimeter to submillimeter residual cancer cells to facilitate their removal during surgical procedures. |
