titleOfInvention | Plants tolerant to pathogenic microorganisms growing in vascular tissues |
abstract | The present invention relates to the production of transgenic plants resistant to infection by phloem-restricted microorganisms, which involves inducing the expression of a chimeric or fusion protein comprising the phloem protein of lime (CsPP16), the linker protein and Proteins having antimicrobial activity (eg, having antimicrobial activity or antimicrobial hydrolases). The part of the fusion protein that corresponds to the CsPP16 protein can perform its function of symplast movement, which occurs through the plasmodesmata of plants to reach the phloem sieve tube, and the antimicrobial part can act to eliminate colonization in the phloem of microorganisms. The invention allows the control of diseases that cause citrus yellowing or Huanglongbing (HLB), and is also suitable for the treatment of other diseases caused by bacteria and other microorganisms that colonize the vascular tissues of higher plants. The present invention includes the designed molecular carrier carrying and expressing the fusion protein, the transgenic plant obtained by stably expressing the fusion protein, and the method for transforming healthy or diseased adult plants to express the chimeric protein and control diseases such as HLB. Transformation of diseased plants with the fusion protein is a method of producing healthy shoots free of pathogenic microorganisms, such as HLB-free bacteria. |
