abstract Provided here is a new method for identifying specific families of mammalian odorant receptors for the malodor of odorous or aromatic substances, in particular indole and skatole, and their usefulness in the discovery of modulating (blocking, enhancing, masking or mimicking compounds) ) the use of the active compound thereof. Identification of orphan mouse odorant receptors from olfactory sensory neurons in response to compounds of interest. The resulting receptors, as well as their human counterparts, can be screened against test compounds in analytical methods to confirm their identity as odorant or aroma receptors, particularly malodor receptors, and subsequently discover modulators that inhibit, for example, human malodor perception .
