Methods of proliferating bone marrow cell populations and applications thereof |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a method of proliferating myeloid progenitor cells by culturing the cells of the starting population in a medium containing a mixture of cytokines and growth factors, wherein the cytokines and growth factors promote the growth and proliferation of myeloid progenitor cells. The expanded cell population provides a source of cells for use as a therapeutic formulation for the treatment of patients suffering from neutropenia and/or thrombocytopenia as a result of receiving bone marrow-destroying therapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. |
