The present disclosure provides self-dispersing pigments having an isoelectric point of at least about 8, the self-dispersing pigments comprising inorganic particles, and specifically titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) pigments, the inorganic particles being obtained by Sequential treatment of steps: hydrolysis of an aluminum compound or basic aluminate to deposit a hydrated alumina surface; and addition of a bifunctional compound comprising an anchoring group and a basic amine group, the anchoring group binding the A bifunctional compound is attached to the pigment surface, and the basic amine groups include primary, secondary or tertiary amines. These self-dispersing pigments can be used to prepare decorative papers which can be used in paper laminates. |
