The present invention relates to bacterial strains capable of fermentative production of succinic acid using glycerol as carbon source, wherein said strains are genetically modified to comprise a deregulation of the endogenous pyruvate-formate-lyase enzyme activity, and to methods for the production of organic acids, in particular succinic acid, using such microorganisms. The invention also relates to downstream processing of the produced organic acids by cation exchange chromatography. |
