titleOfInvention | Hydrophilic macromonomers and hydrogels comprising the same |
abstract | Compositions comprising at least one hydrophilic silicone macromer suitable for use in the production of hydrogel polymer films from which biomedical devices, such as contact lenses, can be prepared. In one aspect, the hydrophilic silicone macromonomer has formula 1: X-Si(R 1 )(R 2 )O-(Si(R 3 )(R 4 )O) a -Si(R 5 )(R 6 )-Y(1) wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 and R 6 are independently selected from monovalent straight-chain, branched, monovalent, having 1-50 carbon atoms optionally containing heteroatoms or a cyclic group, or I, where I is R L -R P ; Y is a free radical polymerization effective hydrophilic group having the general structure: R L -R P -Z; R L is derived from a group comprising the general formula A non-isomerisable hydrosilylation efficient terminal alkene linking residue of the structure- CH2 -C( RbR7 ) - ( CR8R9 ) n , where the subscript n is selected from an integer of 1-10; R 7 , R 8 and R 9 can be selected from hydrogen and a monovalent hydrocarbon group with 1-10 carbon atoms optionally containing heteroatoms; R b is selected from a monovalent hydrocarbon group with 1-6 carbon atoms; R P is a spacer group comprising a divalent hydrophilic organic group having 0-100 carbon atoms and optionally a heteroatom; and X is a free-radically polymerizable group. The compositions may be polymers and hydrogel films suitable for use in the preparation of contact lenses. |
