Provided is a polishing composition which is suitable for the polishing of an object having a metal wiring layer (14) formed thereon and can reduce the occurrence of uneven defects while keeping the polishing speed at a high level. A polishing composition for use in the polishing of an object having a metal wiring layer (14) formed thereon, said polishing composition comprising an agent for preventing the corrosion of metals, a complexing agent, a surfactant and water, wherein the solid surface energy of the surface of the object becomes 30 mN/m or less after the polishing of the object with the polishing composition. It is preferred that the surfactant is an anionic surfactant. |
