| abstract |
The present invention relates to various embodiments of surgical instruments that include an end effector, a shaft, and a jaw assembly. The end effector may include an ultrasonic blade extending distally substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis. The shaft may extend proximally from the end effector along the longitudinal axis. The jaw assembly may include a first jaw member and a second jaw member. The jaw assembly is pivotable about a first axis substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis from a first position in which the first and second jaw members are substantially parallel to the ultrasonic blade to second position. Additionally, the first jaw member and the second jaw member are pivotable about a second axis substantially perpendicular to the first axis. |
