abstract The present application provides a salen indium catalyst having the following general formula (formula (I)) and a corresponding dimer. The salen indium catalysts are particularly useful in catalyzing the ring opening polymerization of cyclic ester monomers such as lactide. Also provided herein are methods of using salen indium complexes to catalyze the polymerization of cyclic ester monomers. Of particular interest is the successful polymerization of lactide using the salen indium catalysts of the present invention to produce polylactic acid with high isotacticity.
