abstract The invention discloses a multi-feature VP-tree index-based remote sensing image retrieval method, belonging to the technical field of remote sensing image retrieval. The invention provides a VP-tree index-based indexing validation index, namely, a distance-contrast-based indexing validation index (DCIVI) aiming at characteristic validity selection in remote sensing image retrieval; sub-images in an annular region closer to a query object are taken as a nearest neighbor set, and the sub-images falling into another annular region are taken as a farthest neighbor set; the validity of returning to the nearest neighbor set of the VP-tree index corresponding to a specific feature space is analyzed by calculating the distance contrast of the two sets. The VP-tree index can be used for selecting the characteristic which is best fit for describing the image content in a self-adaptive way, so that the retrieval speed of a remote sensing image is accelerated, and the retrieval quality (recall ratio and precision ratio) is also obviously improved. The invention also discloses a multi-feature VP-tree index-based remote sensing image retrieval device.
