abstract Compositions and methods for lightening mammalian skin are described herein. In a first aspect, the present invention may provide a composition comprising: a) a compound of formula I: (structure); and b) at least one of an antioxidant, a diol and a solvent; wherein the composition comprises less than 100 ppm O2 , and wherein the composition exhibits a change in L* value of less than about 10.0 when stored at ambient temperature and pressure for a period of time, wherein the period of time is at least about 2 days.
