The present invention relates to compositions and systems for forming cross-linked biomaterials and associated methods of preparation and use. The present invention provides crosslinkable compositions which are readily crosslinkable in situ to provide crosslinkable biomaterials. The composition contains at least two biocompatible, non-immunogenic components, having reactive groups thereon, with functional groups selected to be able to interact, ie cross-link, between the components. In one embodiment, the first component has nucleophilic groups and the second component has electrophilic groups. Other components may have nucleophilic or electrophilic groups. The invention provides kits for delivering the compositions, as well as methods of making and using the compositions. Typical uses of the crosslinkable compositions include tissue augmentation, bioactive agent delivery, bioadhesion, and prevention of adhesion following surgery or injury. |
