titleOfInvention Method for the manufacture of composite separators
abstract The present invention pertains to a process for the manufacture of a composite separator for an electrochemical cell, said process comprising the following steps: (i) providing a substrate layer; (ii) providing a coating composition comprising: - an aqueous latex comprising at least one vinylidene fluoride (VdF) polymer [polymer (F)] under the form of primary particles having an average primary particle size of less than 1 micron, as measured according to ISO 13321, and - at least one non-electroactive inorganic filler material; (iii) applying said coating composition onto at least one surface of said substrate layer to provide a coating composition layer; and (iv) drying said coating composition layer at a temperature of at least 60 degrees, preferably of at least 100 degrees, more preferably of at least 180 degrees to provide said composite separator. The present invention also pertains to a coating composition suitable for use in said process, to the composite separator obtained from said process and to an electrochemical cell comprising said composite separator.
