titleOfInvention Method for preventing or treating insulin resistance
abstract The present invention relates to methods for preventing or treating insulin resistance. In particular, the present invention relates to the combination of a therapeutically effective amount of the peptide D-Arg-2'6'Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH 2 in the preparation of a medicament for treating or preventing insulin resistance in a mammalian subject application. These methods include administering to the subject an effective amount of an aromatic-cationic peptide having at least one net positive charge; a minimum of four amino acids; a maximum of about twenty amino acids; at a minimum number of net positive charges ( p m ) and the total number of amino acid residues (r), where 3p m is the maximum number less than or equal to r+1; and between the minimum number of aryl groups (a) and the total number of net positive charges ( p t ) where p t can be 1 except that 2a is the largest number less than or equal to p t + 1 when a is 1.
