titleOfInvention Method for preparing metallocene complexes
abstract The present invention relates to a process comprising the step of reacting a 2-indenyl pinacoylborane compound with a bromine substituted compound in the presence of a Pd catalyst and a base to form the corresponding bridged bis(indenyl) ligand. This method step is very efficient and produces fewer (self-coupling) by-products than other known methods. The method of the present invention may further comprise the step of reacting a 2-bromoindene compound with a pinacolborane in the presence of a Pd catalyst and a base to form the corresponding 2-indenylpinacolborane compound. In this context, the present invention provides an improved and facile two-step process for the preparation of bridged bis(indenyl) ligands. These bridged bis(indenyl) ligands may be suitable for the preparation of metallocene complexes such as 2,2'-bis(2-indenyl)biphenyl ZrCl and 1,2-bis(2-indenyl) Benzene ZrCl 2 . These metallocene complexes can be used to polymerize one or more alpha-olefins, preferably ethylene, optionally in the presence of a cocatalyst. In a preferred embodiment, the Pd catalyst is preferably (triphenylphosphine)palladium dichloride (PPh 3 ) 2 PdCl 2 ).
